This was written by David as he was fleeing his enemies. He was distraught, in anguish, and fearful. He is crying out to God to answer his prayer and hear him.
Can you relate? Don't you wish you could just fly away and escape life? You feel overwhelmed, stressed, trapped with no way out...
There is good news! God has given you wings like a dove. Wings to fly. Fly away and be at rest.
But what exactly is flying? And how do you fly? Flying is peace and rest, away from any troubles or worries, and fully aware of God's unending, marvelous love for you. Time stalls, and things around you fade away, and it's just you and God. This is love. True love.
Just like a baby bird, you have to learn how to fly. Dig deep into God's Word. Remember His promises. "I will never leave you nor forsake you." "Do not fear, for I am with you." "I will always love you." There are hidden treasures in His Word just waiting for you to find them.
Focus on them. Focus on Him.
When baby birds learn to fly, the mother pushes them out of the nest. She doesn't push them out to try to hurt them or let them fall to the ground, but because she knows they're ready to fly. You may feel pushed out of your comfort zone or into a tough situation, but just trust God, spread you wings, and fly. Fly away and be at rest.
What is rest anyways? True rest?
Psalm 23:1-4 (The Message)
"God, my shepherd!
I don't need a thing.
You have bedded me down in lush meadows,
you find me quiet pools to drink from.
True to your word,
you let me catch my breath
and send me in the right direction.
Even when the way goes through
Death Valley,
I'm not afraid
when you walk by my side.
Your trusty shepherd's crook
makes me feel secure."
Picture the most beautiful meadow. There's flowers, a stream, and lush green grass. You and God are laying next to each other in the soft grass. You know you are safe here and experience true rest and peace. You can fly here whenever you want and be at peace.
Philippians 4:6-7 (The Message)
"Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of you life."
Philippians 4:7 (NCV)
"And God's peace, which is so great we cannot understand it, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
Let God's love bring you to that place of perfect peace and rest. Trust in Him. He's got everything under control.
Fly away and be at rest.
